Revamped Aprons

Isn't it about time? With life kind of going crazy, working on projects and posting them seem to be impossible. However, when my favorite white shirt got spaghetti sauce on it-it was go time for aprons.

I love aprons. If you drop by my house, you will often find me wearing an apron. Aprons make it possible for an under 5 feet mama to get cooking without getting the top part of my shirts dirty or wet. What is an average height countertop goes to my armpits. I need maximum coverage on top.

Another reason is when I am wearing my apron, I can let my gut relax and I don't see my tummy rolls. And the pockets of the aprons holds many a small pieces of legos, paper, and whatnots as I walk through my house picking up after two juicy boys.

Here's where thrifty meets creativity. I found these six aprons at a thrift store for $0.50 each. Not my style because half aprons don't work for my shortframe b/c of the beforementioned height problem. I had to buy them because some lady somewhere took the time to make these wonderful aprons. And I do love me a crafty woman.

So, I cut them up and turned them into my favorite full-length version. Yes, they do look like they can fit an eight-year old...

Okay. So I started this quilt to take my mind off missing my kids and hubby. It is made from fabric I found ($1) at a garage sale last weekend. I spent $10 on the white background fabric. It's all flannel. I made it on my small Kenmore $10 sewing machine in my kitchen.

I delivered to Alternatives to Violence to be used for their shelters. It's my fabric hug and support to those coming out of a bad situation.

Repurposed bag

So you know when you get those fun bags your husband brings home after attending a conference and you're like "it's cute but I don't want to carry a bag with a company logo on it".

Well, as I was lurking on other bloggers' sites, I found one gal who had the same problem I had. She just fixed that and I had to do the same.

What I did was take the stitching out of the blue logo section, and cut out two pieces and ironed it on top of the logo and sewed it back. Now, I have a French Country themed bag instead of being a walking advertisement.

Thank you fellow bloggers for without you, I would have stuffed this bag in the corner of my scary, disorganized closet.

Remember this country dress (sorry I forgot to take a full length picture)...

...that became this?

Here's what was left of the bottom...it became a skirt for my friend B's beautiful girls.

Girls & sewing

I had two elementary school aged girls over today and they made an apron and purse. They did a reallly good job and if I can get a picture of it without their faces, I can post it. In the meantime, got this shirt with a two buttons missing and took it from the sleeves and then cut it up and made a little girl's summer shirt out of it.

Turtleneck Sweater Repurposed

Original sweater.

Cut it right down the middle.

Took the trim from this shirt and used the arms as flower petals.

Attached button hooks and it's ready for anyone interested in a cardigan (I get itchy in wool).

Are you sick of repurposed clothes yet? I'm sure I'll be into doing something else when the weather gets better but until then-I came across this sweater that was getting passed on and I thought...hmmm...what could this become? A bag? Na. socks? maybe...how about a cardigan?! Yeah!!!

Slippers Part 1

Slippers Part 2

My feet are cold. Very cold. So, why not make slippers?

more repurposed pillows

Cut a 14.25" x 14.25" section of the bottom of a checked dress (use the buttons as the center).

Sew all four sides together. Unsnap the buttons and shove a 14" x 14" pillow form inside. Voila!! Repurposed pillow.
Total time: 10 minutes.

sewing projects

So when are you ever going to post any of your repurpose projects lady? Okay, so I've been making pillow pets and they are fun. Unfortunately, I can only make dogs. Sorry. So here's two I made.

Second, I repurposed this sweater that my mom would wear to church. It's in great condition but totally out of date. It was getting chucked so I saved it and turned it into a pillow. The pillow form brand new for $0.99. I'm giving to my friend for Christmas. If you have a bag of unique, out-of-date clothes that you don't think will sell at a Goodwill or any other thrift store...I will gladly take your goods.
